SASSA Grant Payments: August 2025
Every August, millions of South Africans rely on SASSA payments, from old-age pensions to SRD grants. Here’s the latest on payment dates, grant values, and what happens if your account is under review.

- Old Age Pension: Tuesday, 5 August 2025
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 6 August 2025
- Child Support, Foster Care, and Other Grants: Thursday, 7 August 2025
To reduce crowds and long queues, SASSA pays different grants on different days. You won’t lose your payment if you collect a day or two after your designated date- and it may be easier.

- Old Age (75+): R2 335

Why Some Payments May Get Delayed in August
SASSA is continuing a nationwide grant review process, especially targeting beneficiaries with undisclosed income or unreported changes to personal circumstances.
They identified around 210,000 accounts flagged for review. Delays affect only those required to visit local offices to verify their details.

SMS notifications are sent to affected beneficiaries- but technical issues like changed or inactive numbers mean some don’t receive the messages.
Because of this, SASSA added a fourth payment date each month for these cases to make sure people still receive their grant, just a bit later at the last of the month.
What You Should Do If You’re Affected
If you’ve received a review notice or suspect you might be affected, here’s how to act:
- Visit your local SASSA office as soon as possible. Bring all relevant documents.
- Make sure your contact details, banking info, and personal records are accurate and updated.
- Consider appointing a procurator or power of attorney if you cannot visit yourself.
What Documents to Bring for a Review
When you visit SASSA to resolve your status, take:
- Valid ID (smart ID card)
- Recent three-month bank statements
- Proof of residence (e.g. utility bill)
- Evidence of income or unemployment
- Medical reports if you’re applying for disability or care grants
- Birth certificates or schooling proofs if you collect child grants
SASSA may also need updated income declarations- especially for SRD or old-age beneficiaries flagged for non-disclosure.
For Scams and Safety
Scammers are targeting SASSA payees, especially those under review. A fake service called “Ubuntu Life” has been using SASSA branding to charge fees. SASSA never charges fees or outsources its applications.
If something feels odd- don’t respond to unverified contacts, don’t pay for services, and report suspicious activity to SASSA immediately.
SASSA Grant Review Process
- SASSA matches beneficiary data with credit bureaus and other government departments.
- If income appears undisclosed or changed, a review is triggered.
- Payments get delayed until beneficiaries attend the office and verify everything.
- Once resolved, the grant is reinstated and paid with the next possible batch.
This process is not meant to penalize deserving beneficiaries- but to ensure fairness and integrity of the system.
Useful Tips
- Keep your contact number and banking details current- expired cards or inactive accounts block payment.
- Respond quickly if you get a review notice.
- Visit the office on or before 5 August, if you’ve been flagged- this ensures you can still get August payment via the fourth payment run.
- If you can’t go yourself, appoint someone to act for you.
