Domestic LPG consumers who want to continue receiving the applicable subsidy on their cylinder refills will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) from October 1, 2026.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said that the authentication requirement is intended to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches eligible consumers and to reduce duplicate, inactive or ineligible connections. Consumers who have already completed the biometric authentication process do not need to repeat it.
What Changes From October 1?
From October 1, domestic LPG consumers must have completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to book refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) with applicable subsidy.
This means consumers who have not completed the authentication may need to finish the process before they can continue getting subsidised LPG at the regulated price.
The government has clarified that the measure is aimed at better targeting the subsidy and preventing subsidised domestic LPG connections from being diverted for commercial or industrial use.
Who Does Not Need to Complete Authentication Again?
If your LPG connection has already undergone Biometric Aadhaar Authentication, no fresh authentication is required.
According to government data, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, representing about 89.9% of the consumer base, had completed BAA as of September 19, 2026.
Consumers who have already completed the process can continue booking their LPG refills as usual.

How to Complete LPG Aadhaar Biometric Authentication
Consumers who have not yet completed the process have multiple options.
1. During LPG Cylinder Delivery
Biometric authentication can be completed when the LPG cylinder is delivered. The delivery person can use the oil marketing company’s mobile application to complete the authentication process.
2. Visit the LPG Distributor
Consumers can also visit their LPG distributor’s showroom and complete the Aadhaar biometric authentication there.
3. Use the LPG Company’s Mobile App
The government has also provided app-based options for consumers who want to complete the process themselves.
- Indane: IndianOil ONE app
- Bharatgas: HelloBPCL app
- HP Gas: HP PAY app
The government has also made self e-KYC guidance available through the PMUY portal.
What Happens If You Do Not Complete Aadhaar Authentication?
Not completing BAA does not mean that a consumer will be completely unable to purchase LPG.
According to the government’s announcement, consumers who do not wish to complete biometric authentication can still receive LPG after registering their preference through the available digital channels of their oil marketing company.
However, such consumers will receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy. Depending on availability, 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders may also be supplied under this option.
